Message From Randy

Over 90% of the world’s formally trained youth leaders are in the USA, ministering to only 3% of the world’s youth. YMI is dedicated to changing this statistic. We want to be a part of a world wide movement committed to reaching the world’s youth for Christ by training youth leaders globally. With your help we can empower and equip churches across the world with the leaders they need.

Our Guiding Principles

Principle #1:   Training the Trainers

YMI is open to all creative training strategies, and willing to engage any effective strategy. However, we are PRIMARILY, though not exclusively, focused upon spending our efforts and resources in order to facilitate the training of those Youth Leaders who will in turn become the TRAINERS of other national youth workers within a given people group.

Principle #2:    Training with the GOAL of Non-dependency.

YMI does not pay the salary of a national church youth pastor, nor do we provide churches or church youth groups with any non self-replenishable resources, be it money, equipment, vehicles, or personnel. YMI endorses the four-self principles of indigenous missions work: self-propagating, self-governing, self-supporting, and self-theologizing. YMI does not have a problem with paying the salary and expenses of a national trainer for a limited and stated period of time until indigenous support or bi-vocational arrangements for said national trainer can be provided.

Principle #3: Entering with an EXIT strategy.

YMI commits to enter every training field with a well thought-out EXIT strategy before beginning the training process. We further commit to articulate said exit strategy to national leadership prior to beginning any training process. The EXIT strategy will attempt to stipulate; (1) the limitations of time and resources that YMI will be able to commit to the training project, (2) the goals and conditions of the exit,  and  (3) the nature of any ongoing relationship after the training has been completed.

Principle #4: Training with a critical-contextual view toward culture.

YMI believes in being as culturally appropriate as possible; thereby validating the cognitive, evaluative, or emotive aspects of the target culture, as long as such accommodation does not compromise Biblical faith and practice in general, and the exclusivity of the Gospel in specific.
