(This post was written by Micah Patterson, the Adolescent Orphan Ministry Director)
The year was 2011 when my wife came to me saying she wanted to go to China and work in a special needs orphanage in China, with 3 of her friends. We prayed about it and immediately felt God say, “GO!” Her time there was extraordinary. They held babies and played with the little ones that no-one else seem to want. Her heart was broken and eyes opened as she realized a need to make a change in the lives of the fatherless. She returned home and immediately recruited me to go the next summer.
We gathered a small group together and arrived in 2012 to work once again in China. While there, God powerfully spoke to me and changed my heart. He showed me a segment of teens that had been forgotten by the world. I came back to America with a passion to do something to help those teens.
