What a contrast! As I walked through Old Town Jakarta, the old Dutch colonial capitol of Indonesia, I was struck by the effects of modern youth culture globalization! Teenagers everywhere, in a 88% Islamic nation of more than 250 million southeast Asian island peoples, wearing burkas and Levi jeans, carrying pda cell phones and break dancing on the sidewalks! Look at the teenagers in the pictures, are they really so different? Indonesia is a nation of Islands, more than 17,000 of them, where the people speak more than 700 language dialects. Less than 8% are Christians, and thus the need for the Gospel. More than 20% of the population is between the ages of 12 – 24, one of the highest in Asia. I just returned from Indonesia where an agreement was struck that will allow YMI to begin training national professors of youth ministry in 2012. These national professors will then begin training youth leaders all over Indonesia in more than a dozen evangelical seminaries and Bible colleges! What a privilege and honor to assist the people of this wonderful country in reaching their youth population with the good news of the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ! Please pray for this new venture as we seek financial support for textbooks, translation, and travel expenses.
Thanks for your continued financial and prayer support! God Bless. Randy Smith, YMI President & Founder
